There is no doubt that our world is in a sinful mess. Society wants nothing to do with God and His Word, and that’s just the way they like it. But no matter how far men strive away from God, it should never dissolve the responsibilities we have as Christians to be salt and light. The future and hope of our nation will never be judged by society, but by the “righteous in the land.” Aka The Church. Here are four things every Christian should do for their country.

1. Be Saved. The obvious first step to making an impact in your nation, is to know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. In the heart of every believer, lives the preserving and resurrection power of the Holy Spirit. This enables the work of God to be done in any community and places special care to the ones impacted by the Gospel of Christ.

2. Be Separate. The Bible teaches us as believers to be a “peculiar people” (I Peter 2:9), different from the rest of the world. First Corinthians 6: 14-17 challenges us that we should not be “yoked together with unbelievers.” This doesn’t mean to go stick your head in the sand, never to interact with another human being ever again. This just means that we should not have very close fellowship with unbelievers so that they will not push us away from Christ. When the world looks at you, can they definitively assume you are a follower of Jesus Christ?

3. Be Surrendered. Colossians 1:18 says, “…that in all things he might have the preeminence.” Christ should have first place in every area of your life. Your marriage, job, school, activities and anything else you can think of, should have Christ as the central hub. What’s the one area in your life that you know God does not control? (Remember, He can do more with it than you can.)

4. Be A Soul-Winner. God didn’t just save you FROM something, He saved you FOR something! It is not just the pastor’s and deacon’s job to go out and bring souls in, it is the privilege of EVERY Believer. When was the last time you led someone to Christ? Handed out a Gospel tract? Don’t forget, you hold the Hope of the world…so be sure to share it.
