“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works;” Revelation 2:5a.

It does not happen often, but on occasion we will read about a train going off track and wrecking somewhere.  I have always wondered why more trains do not derail. They are so big and heavy and only roll on those small rails.  When those wrecks do happen, there is a lot of study and investigation that goes into finding out what went wrong. The only way to really find out what went wrong is to go back to the place the accident happened and investigate there.

In our lives, sometimes we get off track spiritually.  There are many different things that can cause us to derail spiritually, but today I want us to learn how to get back on track when this happens.  If you are not having a great walk with God today, why not? If there was a time in your life that you were closer to God than you are today, how come?  Please understand, it does not have to be that way. You could and should be closer to God today than you have ever been.

So, how can we get back on track if we have somehow gotten off?

1. Remember

We must remember how great it was back when fellowship with God was sweet and fresh.  Think back to when you were first saved. Think back to summer camp and the decision you made to live for God.  Remember how relieved you were. Remember the peace and joy that you had. Don’t you want that again?

2. Repent

Secondly, we must repent, according to Revelation 2:5  It is sin that breaks that fellowship with the Saviour.  We cannot lose our Salvation, but we can lose the sweet fellowship and joy and peace that being right with God brings.  Repent of that sin and get forgiveness from God and anyone else you have wronged.

3. Return

Lastly, we must return.  David said in Psalms 51:12, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation.”  David was returning to the place he had gotten off track. He remembered how wonderful it was before he derailed and how much fun he was having while living for God.  He repented of the sin that caused him to be so miserable, and he returned to the joy he once had.

Friend, today you can be on fire for God.  You can walk daily with Him and have fun. God wants to bless your life and use you in a great way, but you must remember, repent, and return.  Don’t hold back from God today!

The rewards are always at the end of the road.  It pays to go all the way with Jesus.

**I encourage you to read all of Psalm 51 today.
