Who likes staying at home? With the pandemic of the Coronavirus putting restrictions on travel, churches, business meetings etc, it has definitely prohibited us from our fast-paced American schedule. Many of us have been forced to spend some extra time at home. While that may be frustrating to many, I for one am grateful. I … Continue reading The Upside of Downtime
Unmerited Rest
There is no day like payday! The rush of landing a huge client or your boss handing you a few weeks’ reward for your hard work, is always satisfying. It constitutes a deep feeling of worth and masculinity when you know you did your job well and your labor merits a good reward. So, you strut your way to the bank with your “millions” in your pocket, and you come home with a bag filled with so much money, you don’t know what to do with it all! Right?
A Personal Invitation for Rest
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like the psalmist when I think of all of life’s trials; “… Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest” (Psalm 55:6). But then so softly and tenderly God seems to always bring me back to Calvary’s cross.
Rest Is In Someone Not Something
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus unveils to His followers exactly where they could discover rest for their souls. These verses mean a great deal to me, and I’d like to share with you some of the lessons God has taught me through this passage. I challenge you to make these verses a purposeful meditation throughout the day. They have literally changed my life, and I know they can do the same for you.
Poor Substitutes for Peace (Part 2)
Have you ever been to New York City? If you have, you mostly likely know of a little suburb called Chinatown. Chinatown is a densely populated neighborhood that attracts many tourists with its Southeast Asian restaurants and shops. I remember my visit to Chinatown as a senior in high school, and I can assure you it was an interesting experience.
Poor Substitutes for Peace
Who is The Saddest Man on Earth? We have discovered it is not the lost man, but the saved man that chooses to live as the lost man: restless as the sea (Isaiah 57:20-21). There are many of God’s people who trust Christ with their eternal soul but do not trust Him with their lives. They choose not to live in the rest that can only be found in the presence of Christ. They make a poor substitution that costs them true joy and soul rest.
3 Reasons Why You Might Be Restless
So, is it possible that a Believer can be restless? Can a Christian experience an unsettled soul through life’s journey? Unfortunately, yes. And it all can be traced back to one thing; sin!
The Saddest Man On Earth
Sad as the lost man be, I do not believe he is the saddest man on earth. Yes, his life will have the saddest end in separation from God for all eternity, but he is not most miserable.
A Restless World
Restlessness has many victims. It is astounding to think of how many men lay their head on the pillow at night, utterly restless. Whether it be from their jobs, finances, or families, everything seems too difficult to bear. There is no peace or solitude for the soul, just a relentless “mouse chase” of the mind that leads to nowhere. Nothing ever works or seems to satisfy. Life only seems to be empty, and the belly never full.
